Special Guest Speaker Barry Johnson, a Birmingham native, currently resides in New York and Washington, D.C.
A businessman, social entrepreneur, and economic diplomat, Johnson leads the Inbound Investment & Global Market Access practice of the New York-based 32 Advisors, LLC, where he counsels the leadership of non-US firms on business, political, and cultural issues that impact their strategy for entering and successfully growing in the U.S. and other global markets.
Johnson heads BJ Affirms, an online daily affirmation, social messaging system with subscribers world-wide.
He also co-founded Global Act, Inc., a multi-national community of individuals and businesses, committed to using their resources to accelerate positive social change in the world.
Previously, Johnson served President Barak Obama’s administration in senior advisory capacities: U.S. Department of Commerce as Senior Advisor for Economic Development; then, founding Executive Director of SelectUSA. Johnson also served as Senior Advisor, Office of Global Intergovernmental Affairs for Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Johnson serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foreign Direct Investment Association and it’s World Forum on Foreign Direct Investment.
Johnson’s governmental service was preceded by over 20 years of management experience in the private sector with such companies as Disney, Bertelsmann and Sony, Viacom’s BET Networks, and Microsoft Corporation.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in economics and political science from Yale University and Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He is a graduate of The Altamont School in Birmingham, Alabama.
